Celebrate world food with Kenvale College!


Food is for sharing, celebrating and socialising, and Kenvale College’s upcoming World Food Festival open day hopes to incorporate all three!

Organised for Saturday, September 3 on our campus, the World Food Festival is designed to celebrate the skills that our hospitality, events and cooking students have learnt over the last semester. The perfect way to showcase this is with future students, agents, industry guests and friends of the college at a warm, friendly and fun event.

As the name suggests, the theme of this year’s open day is world food – the cultural dishes and traditions of our students, faculty and communities. In Australia, cultural diversity is what makes us special, and many dishes that were once foreign are now staples of our menus.

Our students will take your taste buds around the world, from Europe to South America and everywhere in-between. Of course, celebrating world food is also about putting local twists on these dishes so make sure you don’t miss any samples on the day!

Here is a taste of the menu:

Italian – Penne Basil Pesto Parmesan Crisps. There will also be a pasta-shaping demonstration.

Spanish – Churros Chocolate Fondant and demonstration on Potato Tortilla.

Mexican – Tacos, Kidney Beans Guacamole, Smoked Red Capsicum Shallots, Salsa, Chilli and Sour Cream – all assembled fresh in front of you.

USA – Pulled Slow-Cooked Shoulder of Pork Sliders, English Mustard Mayonnaise, Coleslaw.

French – Lemon Meringue, freshly made waffles.

Thai – Pad Thai (Rice Noodles, Peanuts, Lime, Palm Sugar, Chilli, Green Shallots, Fish Sauce and Bean Sprouts).

Mocktails will be available at the bar.

With our hospitality and cooking students keen to showcase their skills, we are certainly looking forward to the delicious food on offer!

The value of National Skills Week

This year’s World Food Festival coincides with National Skills Week – where industry, educational providers and students come together to promote the importance of practical learning and the skills acquired from hands-on experience. With widespread skill shortages both in the hospitality and cooking sectors, inspiring the next generation of talent is vital.

For current secondary school students, the Open Day provides more than just a tasty sample of food. There are also campus tours and information sessions available to learn more about Kenvale College and your prospects for the future. We are also very happy to meet new students and showcase the value of these types of qualifications.

Event information

All students, industry guests and agents attending the open day will receive four complimentary food vouchers each for themselves and three guests. Other visitors to the event will receive two complimentary food vouchers, while additional vouchers can be purchased on the day for $5 each.

I just wanted to express thanks and congratulations to all at Kenvale for the magnificent lunch provided on Thursday.

I have been to many hatted restaurants this year and can honestly say that they would have struggled to produce such fantastic dishes.

The lunch was a credit to your students and your staff.  It would be a privilege to enjoy another visit next year.
