Commercial Cookery Apprenticeships combine paid work and structured training and staff are awarded a SIT30816 – Certificate III in Commercial Cookery. This qualification usually takes three to four years, however, fast track options are available with recognition of prior learning and credit transfers.

Food and Beverage and Housekeeping Traineeships also combine paid work and structured training. SIT20316 – Certificate II in Hospitality and SIT30616 – Certificate III in Hospitality can be undertaken from 6 to 18 months.

Training is delivered flexibly; at the workplace, face to face at Kenvale College, or a combination of both.

Domestic Study Options

Traineeships & Apprenticeships Requirements:

  • Paid part-time or full-time employment (please note under the Apprenticeship & Traineeship Act (2001) there is no category of “casual” apprentice or trainee)
  • A training agreement between the employer and apprentice or trainee, which is registered with the NSW Department of Education
  • A training program, delivered by a Registered Training Organisation such as Kenvale College who will issue a nationally recognised qualification
  • Structured on-the-job training

Available to apprentices who commence on or after: 1 July, 2018

How to apply

New entrant trainee eligibility

A person is eligible to be approved as a new entrant trainee if they have been employed by their traineeship employer: for less than 3 months as a full-time, full-time
equivalent part-time/casual, or a combination of these prior to the commencement of the traineeship for less than 12 months as a part-time or parttime equivalent casual employee prior to the commencement of the traineeship for less than 12 months in a combination of part-time, casual and full-time (or equivalent) employment prior to the commencement of
the traineeship.

Please note: there are no requirements for apprentices.
